Partnerships
Partnerships can be developed to some extent where there is a mutual interest and a reasonable budget. For example, establishing a partnership with a public laboratory allows the invaluable expertise of university professors or research directors to benefit while agreeing on interests, publications in major medical journals or sharing of intellectual property (patent inventors). Everyone thus finds an interest in “kind” and pricing is no longer the key to negotiation.
Awards
Some foundations, notably American ones, dedicate their funds to specific diseases, such as the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds a significant number of projects to cure Parkinson’s disease. These foundations propose calls for projects each year on specific themes and fund projects such as the Jacques Armand Institute, if the scientific committee considers the rational to be quite strong.
Crowdfunding
We believe that it is also possible to appeal to the generosity of the public and their willingness to change the system to get only very efficient treatments through a crowdfunding campaign and thus to supplement the financial needs necessary for the project.
